California Testing 2016-17

The 2016-17 California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) administration will be comprised of the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments; the California Alternate Assessments (CAAs), including the CAA for Science pilot; and the California Science Tests (CASTs) pilot.

Smarter Balanced

- In California, all students in grades 3 through 8 and 11 will participate in the 2016-17 Smarter Balanced tests, which include both ELA and mathematics content areas. These tests are administered online.

California Alternate Assessments- Alternate assessments for ELA and mathematics grades 3 through 8 and 11 are administered inpidually to students who have an inpidualized education program that states the use of one for statewide assessments. These tests are administered online.

California Science Test Pilot - California Science Tests will be given to all students grade five and eight and to selected students in grades ten, eleven, and twelve.


Assessment with iPad

Preparation prior to testing: To ensure a secure test environment, Guided Access must be enabled and activated before students can log in to a test session.

  1. Headphones, keyboard, and other testing materials are handed out.
  2. Set all student iPads with the same passcode.
  3. Have students set the sound at a comfortable level.
  4. Enter Guided Access to allow students to test.

Summative Assessments

Directions for Administration for the Smarter Balanced Online Summative Assessments

Classroom Activities Assignments (Gateway USD) - Once you know your Classroom Activity, the LEA CAASPP Coordinator or CAASPP Test Site Coordinator will need to download and review the materials at least one or two days prior to the planned delivery of your Classroom Activity.

By selecting your Classroom Activity, you will have the ability to print and/or save the PDF file. The Test Administrator (TA) should review the teacher directions for the Classroom Activity carefully to ensure that you know how to prepare for and implement the Classroom Activity.
